While Thanksgiving may not be a holiday celebrated into current society, it’s still a celebration among other Filipinos who incorporate it into tradition. While the holiday for “roasting turkeys” has been abolished many years ago, some Filipinos still observe the tradition of celebrating the day dedicated to expressing gratitude. Is There Thanksgiving Day in the Philippines? As an American colony from 1898 to 1946, the Philippines celebrated Thanks giving on the same day as the United States. President Manuel Quezon even declared it an official local holiday in 1935. As far as I know, other countries do not celebrate Thanksgiving. I know that a number of countries, particularly in Europe celebrate Harvest Days, which is a similar celebration, although not the same. Did they celebrate Thanksgiving in their own houses — as testament to their willingness to adapt to the culture of their new colonial masters — or did they just mingle at Thanksgiving parties thrown by white people?
