This service of gratitude is open to everyone, and all faiths are welcome and encouraged to attend. The idea of an interfaith Thanksgiving service traces back to 1962, when three Protestant Christian churches gathered for Thanksgiving worship. In the Bay Area, the holiday has evolved to include Jewish, Catholic, Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Ohlone, Sikh and Unitarian ... The event on Monday, Nov. 25, is coordinated through the Kaufman Interfaith Institute and will occur at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 47 Jefferson Ave. SE. If the service is to be a shared experience of Christians, then call it an ecumenical Thanksgiving service. However, if the service is to include various faith groups, one or more of which are not Christian, then call it an interfaith Thanksgiving service.
